It’s so hard at this age to meet interesting people in the wild, but I recently felt like I hit the jackpot in that arena. I met a really cool guy on my bowling league, flirted it up a bit over a couple of weeks, exchanged numbers and now we’re talking every day. Turns out we have a lot in common, have the same strange sense of humor, and we’re both night owls – which is important because we stay up every night talking for hours.
We’d been out a few times and after one of these dates we went back to his place for a nightcap (and a make out session), where he proceeded to tell me that he wasn’t really interested in a relationship. I let him know that I wasn’t really interested in being “friends with benefits”, after which he kissed me goodbye, then called and talked to me the whole way home to make sure I made it safely.
He texted me “good morning” the next day and our nightly calls and text chats have continued for nearly two weeks since. I really like this guy but I BELIEVE HIM when he says he doesn’t want a relationship, and I’m not going to waste my time or energy thinking that could change “once he gets to know me better” or whatever.
So why would he reject me then keep me hanging this way? I truly wish he was available, but he’s obviously not, so in my mind that means one of three things: 1) he thinks I’m cool and really does just want to be friends, 2) he’s bored and I’m entertaining, or 3) he’s keeping me occupied in hopes I’ll change my mind about the booty call thing.
We men are very simple people: if we like what we see, we’re coming over there. If we don’t want anything from you, we’re not coming over there. Period. Please highlight this part right here so you can always remind yourself the next time a man steps to you: a man always wants something. Always. And when it comes to women, that plan is always to find out two things: (1) if you’re willing to sleep with him, and (2) if you are, how much it will cost to get you to sleep with him. ― Steve Harvey, “Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man: What Men Really Think About Love, Relationships, Intimacy, and Commitment”
On the one hand, I can never have too many friends, on the other hand Steve Harvey insists its just the sex thing. But I’m also pretty entertaining! What do you guys think?
